In compliance with Clause No. 6 of the Gazette of India published on 11-04-2023, Banaras Hindu University’s Vice-Chancellor has appointed Prof. A.K. Srivastava, the former Dean of the Faculty of Science at the Institute of Science, as the Ombudsperson. This appointment aims to facilitate the redressal of grievances raised by students of the University, as well as those from colleges and institutions affiliated with BHU. Prof. A.K. Srivastava will hold this position for a three-year term, effective immediately.
Functions of the Ombudsperson:
- The Ombudsperson will entertain appeals from aggrieved students only after they have exhausted all other available remedies outlined in the regulations.
- While issues related to malpractices during examinations or the evaluation process may be referred to the Ombudsperson, appeals for revaluation or re-totalling of answer sheets will only be considered if specific irregularities significantly impact the outcome or instances of discrimination are evident.
- The Ombudsperson may seek the assistance of an amicus curiae to address complaints of alleged discrimination.
- The Ombudsperson is committed to resolving grievances within 30 days of receiving an appeal from aggrieved students. Recommendations made by the Ombudsperson will be presented to the Vice-Chancellor for approval.
