Indian Railways’ Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya Partners with Airbus to Boost Indian Aviation Sector

In a significant development, Indian Railways’ Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) Vadodara has joined forces with Airbus to enhance and fortify the Indian aviation sector. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at Rail Bhawan, New Delhi, between Mr. Rémi Maillard, President and Managing Director of AIRBUS India and South Asia, and Prof. Manoj Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics, and IT, who also holds the position of First Chancellor of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya. Ms. Jaya Varma Sinha, the Chairperson and CEO of Railway Board, along with senior Railway Board officials, graced the occasion.

Airbus and Tata had recently announced their collaboration to establish a C295 aircraft facility in Vadodara, Gujarat, aimed at designing, innovating, manufacturing, and developing aircraft in India. Airbus, renowned as the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial aircraft, as well as a leading producer of helicopters, defense, and space equipment, has established a long-standing and mutually beneficial relationship with India. The company recognizes India’s pivotal role in global aviation, viewing it as both a crucial driver and a wellspring of talent and resources. Airbus is committed to fostering a fully integrated aerospace ecosystem in India, with “Make in India” at the core of its business strategy, thereby increasing India’s contribution to its global products.

Addressing the event, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized GSV’s dedication to fostering robust industry-academia partnerships. All courses offered by GSV are designed in collaboration with industry experts to ensure that students are industry-ready. Graduates of GSV are expected to be highly sought after for employment in the transportation and logistics sectors. The MoU with Airbus is a significant stride toward achieving this goal.

Mr. Rémi Maillard, President and Managing Director of Airbus India and South Asia, highlighted Airbus’s commitment to developing India’s aerospace ecosystem. The partnership with Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya will contribute to building a skilled workforce in India, well-prepared to serve the rapidly expanding aerospace sector.

This industry-academic partnership will encompass the co-development and co-delivery of sector-relevant skilling courses and programs for both regular students and working professionals. It will facilitate joint research initiatives, provide industry experiences for faculty members, offer internships and placements for students, and establish scholarship programs. These efforts are aimed at creating job opportunities for students in alignment with industry requirements, with an estimated 15,000 students potentially placed in Airbus Indian operations.

Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) Vadodara, established through an Act of Parliament in 2022, plays a pivotal role in creating a highly skilled workforce for the entire transportation and logistics sectors. Sponsored by the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, GSV operates under the First Chancellor, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics, and IT.

With an exclusive focus on transport and logistics sectors, GSV is a pioneering university designed to fulfill the mandates of National Developmental Plans, including the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan 2021 and National Logistics Policy 2022, encompassing railways, shipping, ports, highways, roads, waterways, aviation, and more. By offering a demand-driven curriculum and leveraging state-of-the-art infrastructure from Centralized Training Institutes of Indian Railways, GSV aims to create a resource pool of professionals spanning technology, economics, management, and policy.
