Lucknow University witnessed a momentous occasion when respected Vice-Chancellor Professor Alok Kumar Rai inaugurated the Mushroom Research Laboratory funded under the National Agricultural Development Programme. The objective of this important initiative is to promote scientific research, development and technical testing of mushrooms.
The newly established laboratory, located within the Department of Botany, was visited by Professor Alok Kumar Rai, who took the opportunity to learn about the various state-of-the-art technical equipment from the Principal Investigator of the project, Amritesh Chandra Shukla.
The inaugural function also marked the beginning of a seven-day mushroom workshop where the participants discussed and emphasized on the need to develop this technology as a sustainable source of income. Program Coordinator Professor Shukla highlighted that the workshop would provide the trainees with lectures and practical training conducted by experts on mushroom cultivation, processing and value added products.
Apart from this, Professor Alok Kumar Rai also planted saplings of Bael and Shami mushroom during the programme. Head of the Department of Botany, Prof. Munna Singh provided comprehensive information about mushroom cultivation to the trainees.
