Diverse Achievements and Responsibilities: With a proven track record as the Head of the Department of Physics, Mathematics, and Astronomy at Lucknow University, Professor Tandon brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Her responsibilities will encompass Student Welfare and Academic Affairs, making her a pivotal figure in shaping the university’s future.
A Remarkable Journey: Professor Poonam Tandon’s academic journey has been exemplary. She completed her B.Sc. in Physics, Mathematics, and Astronomy from Lucknow University in 1987. She went on to earn her M.Sc. in Physics in 1989, under the guidance of Professor V.D. Gupta, who later became the Vice-Chancellor of Gorakhpur University.
Her association with Professor V.D. Gupta continued as she pursued her Ph.D. under his mentorship. She achieved multiple accolades, including NET and JRF qualifications.
A Beacon of Research: Professor Tandon’s scholarly contributions have extended to more than 250 research papers published at both national and international levels. She has been honored with prestigious fellowships like the Humboldt Fellowship from Germany and the Fulbright Fellowship from the USA. Her role as the Director for preparing top-ranking institutions across India for NAAC accreditation, including NIRF rankings, reflects her commitment to academic excellence.
Awards and Recognitions Galore: In recognition of her exceptional contributions, Professor Tandon has received awards such as the Center of Excellence UP, Shiksha Shri, UGC Research Award, Government of India, UGC Mid-Career Award, Young Scientist Award, Nature Publishing Group Award USA, JSPS Fellowship Japan, and DBT National Associateship Government of India. She has also been selected for the Saraswati Samman.
