The MoU emphasizes Tezpur University’s commitment to providing knowledge support for the development of sustainable livelihoods in the BTR, with a specific focus on agriculture and agricultural products. The objective is to enhance understanding and implementation of practices that promote healthy and sustainable growth in the region’s agricultural sector.
Through multidisciplinary research in disease detection and prevention, exploration of food processing and engineering technologies, and other collaborative efforts, the signing of the MoU paves the way for a new era of collaboration in developing the BTR’s agricultural sector. This partnership between the government and Tezpur University, one of Assam’s premier educational institutions, holds immense potential for the region’s progress.
Governor Gulab Chand Kataria expressed his satisfaction with the MoU, describing it as a new chapter in BTR’s academic and overall growth. He emphasized the significance of the agreement’s focus on agriculture, highlighting its potential to explore and leverage the region’s agricultural prospects.
Furthermore, Governor Kataria expressed his anticipation for the establishment of the Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma Chair at Tezpur University. The chair is dedicated to the revered leader’s contributions to the Bodo community, symbolizing inspiration and commitment to their cause.
In addition to the MoU signing, the event marked the inauguration of the IEEE Smart Village Project at Jhawani village in Sonitpur district. The project aims to uplift rural livelihoods through the implementation of smart and sustainable technologies such as solar-powered plants, oil and pulse mills, cold storage facilities, and fishery.
BTC Chief Pramod Boro addressed the gathering, acknowledging the underdeveloped nature of the BTR and the limited employment opportunities available to the Bodo people. He emphasized the need for embracing new ideas, creating opportunities for youth, and investing in knowledge and skills essential for thriving in the 21st century. Boro also highlighted the plans to offer scholarships to five meritorious students once the Upendra Nath Brahma Chair becomes fully functional.
Tezpur University Vice Chancellor Prof Shambhu Nath Singh stated that the MoU signing represents a momentous occasion that embodies progress, collaboration, and the fulfillment of aspirations. He commended BTC Chief Pramod Boro for prioritizing education, emphasizing its pivotal role in the overall development of society.

The event concluded with a lamp lighting ceremony as a tribute to the revered leader, Upendra Nath Brahma, and the release of a book titled “Warp and Weft, Textile Tradition of the Bodos” authored by Dr. Juri Gogoi Knowar, an assistant professor at Tezpur University.
